New Student Action Reporting Form

Action: Demonstrations of deeper learning in responsible behavior
through responsible action; a manifestation in practice of the
           other essential elements.
(from "Early Years in the PYP: Educator's Perspectives)

Action is one of the five essential elements of the PYP. At Caldwell Heights we are actively looking for student action in response to what the student are learning. We hope that this is occurring at home, as well.

We need your help!!!
If your student performs a Student Action at home, we would like to celebrate their action by sharing it with our school community, and the world via announcements & Facebook!!! All you or your student need to do is fill out the form below. Also, if you have a picture of your student performing this action, please email it to our IB Coordinator, Janet Stading at janet_stading@roundrockisd.org :)

The form can be found HERE!!!

Students helping students . . . Caldwell Heights 4th Graders in Action!

The International Baccalaureate description of action is when "students demonstrate deeper learning in responsible behavior through responsible action". Every day, in every classroom students are “responding” to their learning through action.

Thanks to the generous donations of the women of Austin Junior Forum, an anonymous donor, as well as CHE 4th graders whom heeded a call to action, nearly 80 students went home today for the winter break with nutritious and easy to prepare food, as well as a little special giftWhat great initiative from these students!!!

Welcome to PYP at Caldwell Heights!!!

The PYP, or Primary Years Program, is the elementary version of the International Baccalaureate. It is a philosophy and curriculum framework that helps prepare students for life as global citizens. The IB is motivated by a mission to create a better world through education. It promotes intercultural understanding and respect, not as an alternative to a sense of cultural and national identity, but as an essential part of life in the 21st century.

All of the above is captured in the IB mission statement:

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

This blog will be a window into the PYP program at Caldwell Heights, a place to learn more about how and what we teach and learn. We look forward to sharing our journey with you!!!
